I was born in 1980’s Romania into an intellectual family, and thus became a part of the early diaspora in 1992 when I started going to elementary school in Berkeley, California. I moved around a fair bit as a child, and developed a keen interest in history and politics- which was carried over through my education and into my early years as a professional community organizer in New York.
I’m not sure when my first consciously mystic experiences were, but as a teenager I was aggressively atheistic, and only reluctantly conceded the possibility of a higher order sometime before college started. By way of some initiations, I developed and ardent interest in European esotericism and global comparative religions. Yet, when I began my Reiki journey I was engrossed in the seeming rationalism of the Western academic and mystery traditions and thought I would prove energy healing to be nothing more than New Age superstition.
Walking out of my first attunement, I knew that my life had changed forever. I went on, receiving the Master’s degree in 2008. Reiki remained a constant personal practice, shared with my friends, family and occasionally random people in need of support. Influenced too by my studies at the time, I realize I was practicing a very Western blend of magic, shamanism and energy medicine.
I really felt the call to start teaching in 2014. Having realized that Light radiates outwardly to heal the world, give clarity to our minds and a compass to our souls, I joined efforts with some like minded luminaries and created Firefly Society, a NYC Reiki based collective of healers, in September of the same year. Throughout all the experiences of this period and intensive Reiki practice, I found a great thirst for some spiritual answers regarding Reiki that I could not find in my received teachings. It was then that I picked up a copy of Frans Stiene’s Reiki Sourcebook, wherein the esoteric ideas and history that I was searching for came to surface as Usui Reiki Ryoho- the traditional style practiced in Japan as passed down from Mikao Usui and through to the URR Gakkai. I took Frans’ Master course at the first opportunity in NYC and was richly rewarded.
Since then I have been teaching and practicing Usui Reiki Ryoho peppered with esoteric philosophy to select candidates. For me, Reiki is a simple and profound spiritual practice that is aimed at personal liberation, in the highest sense of the phrase. It is by unveiling our own essence, or true self, that we allow Light to become focused and truly healing.
After spending a few months in India and Nepal in 2019, seeking to better understand the sources of yoga and Buddhism, I have returned to Romania where I am currently offering deeper instruction in Reiki and meditation.
